Gov. Snyder’s Inability to Tackle Roads Shows Serious Lack of Leadership
For three years governor talks roads, waits until last minute and can’t finish the job
LANSING — Thanks to the lack of leadership from Gov. Rick Snyder, the Senate failed to make any progress on desperately needed road funding before the legislative break.
“It’s not like we haven’t known for the past three years that Michigan’s roads were in terrible condition, so I’m curious as to why Gov. Snyder and Republican leadership waited until the last minute to address our road funding issue,” questioned Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “It only took lawmakers a few hours to destroy democracy by usurping the Raise Michigan Coalition on minimum wage and yet they seem to be unable to find answers to our roads when we’ve had years to discuss the problem. Perhaps giving corporations a $1.8 billion tax giveaway wasn’t the best use of taxpayer dollars. One thing is perfectly clear: Gov. Snyder lacks the leadership to push through policies that actually benefit working families — even with a Republican supermajority in the Senate.”
