Progress Michigan Statement on State Treasurer Andy Dillon’s Resignation

Earlier today, State Treasurer Andy Dillon resigned from office. Dillon cited issues stemming from his recent divorce and ongoing media scrutiny. This follows the treasurer’s recent deposition related to Detroit’s bankruptcy.

“I believe in serendipity, but the timing of these events seems too close to be a coincidence,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Governor Snyder appointed Andy Dillon as state treasurer, and Dillon and other administration officials are coming under an increasing amount of scrutiny because of Rick Snyder’s failed experiment as governor and his administration’s overall lack of transparency. We sympathize with Andy Dillon in the light of his tumultuous family situation, however we have to question the timing of his resignation and call on Snyder to live up to his campaign promise of transparency.”
