Lonnie Scott to lead progressive communications team starting on July 29
LANSING – Today Progress Michigan named Lonnie Scott as the organization’s new Executive Director, taking over for Zack Pohl, who has accepted a position as Communications Director for Schauer for Governor. Scott currently serves as Michigan State Director for Enroll America, a nonpartisan organization that aims to ensure that all Americans are enrolled in and retain health coverage, and previously served as Michigan Communications Director for Know Your Care.
“We’re excited to welcome an effective communicator like Lonnie who’ll make a great leader of the team at Progress Michigan,” said Pohl. “Lonnie knows what it takes to fight for middle class families, in the face of relentless attacks from right-wing extremist politicians and the corporate special interests that back them. I’m confident he’ll be a powerful, consistent voice, ready to lead Michigan’s progressive community.”
At Know Your Care, Scott worked to educate Michiganders about the benefits and provisions of the Affordable Care Act. This came as right-wing politicians worked in concert with corporate CEOs and wealthy special interests, spending hundreds of millions to spread disinformation and deny quality, affordable health care to millions of Americans.
“I’m looking forward to this new opportunity leading the great team at Progress Michigan as we fight to save the Michigan we know and love,” said Scott. “Progress Michigan is a strong and effective advocate for progressive ideas and holding politicians accountable, and I look forward to working with the progressive community to build a better future for Michigan’s middle class families.”
Prior to working at Know Your Care, Scott worked in the Michigan House of Representatives for progressive leaders Rep. Jeff Irwin and Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith. He is a graduate of Central Michigan University.
