Hall’s Lukewarm Statement on Schriver’s Racist Tweet Falls Far Short
Hall must make clear that white supremacy has no place in state government
MICHIGAN – On Wednesday, Michigan House Minority Leader Matt Hall finally broke his silence on Michigan State Representative Josh Schriver pushing the white supremacist “Great Replacement Theory,” which has been used repeatedly by white nationalists to justify murderous rampages and hate.
“I have condemned pizza for burning my mouth in stronger terms than Hall condemned blatant white supremacist rhetoric from his own caucus member,” said Sam Inglot, executive director of Progress Michigan.
In early January, Progress Michigan called on Michigan Republican Party leadership to respond to Rep. Schriver’s extremism and after his Great Replacement Theory tweet in early February, called on Schriver to resign and Rep. Hall to hold him accountable. Last year, Progress Michigan called attention to several Republican lawmakers, including Hall, for spreading hate and disinformation about efforts to ensure LGBTQ+ Michiganders are equally protected under the law.
“Michiganders deserve better than a lukewarm leadership in the face of blatant racism,” Inglot continued.
