Weak Governor Snatches Economic Advances from Working Families

Snyder cements his legacy as a governor who cares nothing about hardworking Michiganders

Progress Michigan released the following statement in response to Governor Rick Snyder signing bills that will gut the minimum wage increase and earned paid sick time law. The following statement can be attributed to Lonnie Scott, executive director for Progress Michigan:

“Rick Snyder has screwed over working families in Michigan time and time again. That was the case with Right to Work, the poisoning of Flint families, Detroit schoolchildren being denied the resources they need in classrooms, and now gutting the earned paid sick time law and minimum wage increases that Michigan families were counting on. Michigan deserves better than the lack of leadership displayed by Snyder. He has been nothing but a puppet for his corporate donors like the DeVos Family and lobbyists like those with the Michigan Chamber and Michigan Restaurant Association.

Snyder’s legacy will be defined by the pain of families across the state of Michigan who are most in need. After the November elections, we wished we could bid Snyder good riddance without more suffering being inflicted by him and the Michigan Republican Party, but here we are. We will not give up though. We know things do not have to be this way and we stand with Michigan families as we all fight for elected leadership who will prioritize the needs of working people over the whims of wealthy business interests.”
