Senate GOP Votes to Enshrine Corporate Money in Michigan Politics
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the passage of Senate Bill 335, which would codify unlimited corporate spending in Michigan elections.
“This bill is Citizens United on steroids. Republicans are trying to increase the power of money in our democracy, rather than the power of participation. We don’t need more influence from wealthy campaign contributors in our elections,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “We need real democracy reform that makes our elections more accurate, modern and secure. This bill is the exact opposite of what Michigan needs. Senate Republicans have provided another opportunity for wealthy donors like the DeVos family to have even more influence over Michigan and buy elected officials.”
