Progress Michigan on House Passing Voter ID Bill
Republicans work into the night to keep voters away from polls
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding voter suppression legislation passing in the Republican-controlled legislature.
“What we have seen from the recent recount is that while we have serious problems with how we vote in this state, voter fraud is not one of them. Republicans are merely attempting to put as many barriers to voting as possible in place with this late night rush to ram this legislation through,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “This is not an attempt at voting reform. This is voter suppression. We need real progress to be made in how we vote in Michigan like no-reason absentee voting, same-day registration, and improved voting machines. What is going on right now in the Michigan legislature is the opposite of progress.”
