Why is Bill Schuette Scared of a Recount?
Attorney General files last minute, Trump-esque lawsuit to stop Michigan recount
LANSING — Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is suing to stop the statewide recount of Michigan’s presidential election results.
“Bill Schuette said the recount will pose an ‘expensive and risky threat’ to Michigan. It sounds like he’s describing the political crusade he’s been on since taking office to stymy human rights and environmental protections,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “This is simply Bill Schuette being the right-wing partisan he has always been, this time doing the bidding of Donald Trump. If his objection to the recount is simply that it is too costly, why hasn’t Schuette sued to stop Gov. Rick Snyder from using millions in public funds for his private Flint Water Crisis legal defense? Or to end the $134 million Capitol View project for brand new, unnecessary Senate offices? As a Trump backer, why is Bill Schuette so scared of a recount? Democracy is priceless and every vote should be counted. Bill Schuette’s job is protecting the rights of all Michigan citizens and one of our most sacred rights is the right to vote. Schuette should withdraw this lawsuit immediately and let the democratic process work in the way it was intended.”
