Progress Michigan Releases Hundreds of Pages of MI Dept. of Education Emails

Hundreds of emails obtained through Freedom of Information Act now publicly available

LANSING — Today, Progress Michigan released hundreds of emails between Gov. Rick Snyder’s chief of staff Dennis Muchmore and State Superintendent Mike Flanagan. The release is part of a larger effort to hold the executive office accountable by making the inner workings of government visible to the public.

One finding in the emails revealed that top-level Snyder administration officials ultimately want to dissolve the Highland Park School District.

“It’s important for government officials to be accountable to the people they serve,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “We’ll continue to act as government watchdogs by ensuring Michiganders know what is being decided about their communities behind closed doors.”

The MDE emails can be found online by following this link. Due to the size of the files, the emails have been broken down into 12 PDFs. Emails regarding Highland Park and Common Core have been uploaded separately.
