Progress Michigan: New Poll Shows Gubernatorial Race a Dead Heat
Voters souring on Snyder’s Wrong Priorities for Michigan
LANSING — A new poll released today by Progress Michigan shows Michigan’s gubernatorial race as a dead heat.
The poll was conducted through live telephone operators September 27-30th by Lake Research Partners, an internationally recognized public opinion research firm, and represents a sample of 600 likely voters, 25 percent of which conducted over cellphones.
Progress Michigan and its partners have been tracking the gubernatorial and U.S. Senate race since August; the survey represents a positive momentum swing for Schauer where he trailed Snyder.
Democrat | Republican | Und | |
Gubernatorial Ballot | 43 | 44 | 12 |
U.S. Senate Ballot | 45 | 36 | 18 |
“Mark Schauer continues to benefit from an increase in name recognition and robust base consolidation,” said Celinda Lake, President of Lake Research Partners. “With a little more than a month from election day, this race remains highly competitive.”
The tight poll shows that Michiganders realize Gov. Snyder is not the pragmatic businessman he claimed to be when he was first elected.
“It’s clear that Michigan voters realize that Gov. Snyder has the wrong priorities for Michigan,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “The disastrous handling of the Aramark contract, taxing senior pensions and cutting funding from our classrooms are not the best ways to win over hardworking Michiganders and this poll reflects that fact. Michiganders know that Gov. Snyder has consistently put the interests of corporations over the well-being of Michigan families.”
