Progress Michigan Executive Director Reacts to Bill that Would Double Campaign Contributions

More money in politics is not what Michigan needs

LANSING — A Republican-sponsored bill that would double the maximum amount of money that citizens could contribute to candidates and political action committees received approval today from the House Elections and Ethics Committee. This bill is wrong for Michigan and would only further the negative impact of money in politics.

“There are far more immediate concerns the Michigan Legislature should be addressing than increasing campaign finance limits,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “This an attempt by Republicans to allow the wealthiest people in Michigan to further influence elections and politics. The legislature should be focused on creating the jobs they have promised, not furthering the impact of their wealthy corporate donors.”
