LANSING – Progress Michigan issued the following statement on testimony before a Michigan House subcommittee from Hillsdale President Larry Arnn. In his testimony on the Common Core State Standards, President Arnn falsely claimed that they dictate specific curriculum that, in his words, has a “progressive” and “anti-religious” bias. He also asserted that Hillsdale was approached by the Michigan Department of Education because they “didn’t have enough dark ones,” referring to minority students.

“The ignorance of conservative leader Larry Arnn would be surprising if this were a movement that placed any value on respect for diversity or the truth,” said Lonnie Scott, Executive Director of Progress Michigan. “Whether it’s describing minority college students as “dark ones” or making things up about education standards that are supported by former Gov. Engler, it’s clear that Larry Arnn is unfit to lead an institution of higher education.”
