Progress Michigan Names Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib Legislator of the Month for February
Tlaib named for oversight work; calling out racist actions of Rep. Meadows
LANSING — Progress Michigan has named Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib its Legislator of the Month for February. Tlaib was named for her work on the House Oversight Committee and specifically for calling out Representative Mark Meadows for his racist action of using a black woman as a prop.
“Everyone knows Rashida is a straight shooter and didn’t run for office to shy away from calling out people when they deserve it. Her calls for impeachment, demands for justice, and insistence that racist acts like using people as props get called out for what they are is the breath of fresh air people have been waiting for in Washington,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “We are proud to name Congresswoman Tlaib our Legislator of the Month for February but we are also proud to know her as a fighter for her constituents, everyone in Michigan and progressive values. I know Congresswoman Tlaib doesn’t fight like hell for her own recognition but it’s important to honor elected officials who fight the way she does.”
The Legislator of the Month award is given to an elected official who demonstrates a commitment to a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
