Gov. Snyder Tells Us What We Already Know: His Emergency Manager Poisoned Flint Children
Announces overdue plans to switch back to Detroit water system
LANSING – Today, Governor Rick Snyder announced that Flint would switch back to Detroit’s water system after more than a year of residents being forced to drink poisoned water following the decision by Snyder’s emergency manager to change the city’s water source from Detroit to the Flint River in April 2014.
“Governor Snyder’s announcement confirmed what we already knew, that his emergency manager poisoned children and families in Flint. It should not have taken this long for the governor to admit that he was wrong and take action to fix the problem that he created,” said Hugh Madden, communications director for Progress Michigan. “The damage that the governor and the emergency manager have done in Flint doesn’t stop with the water switch. The question now is, who is going to be held responsible for poisoning people in Flint and how are Snyder and our elected officials going to ensure that this doesn’t happen in other cities in Michigan?”
Lead poisoning is irreversible and can lead to developmental problems, reducing a child’s IQ and causing serious behavioral and emotional problems. While lead levels can fall in individuals over time, the damage is permanent.
