Progress Michigan Demands Release of Courser-Gamrat Evidence
Public has a right to review all documents before any action is taken on report
LANSING — Today, Progress Michigan sent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to the House Business Office seeking all evidence reviewed during the investigation into the actions of Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat, as well as email correspondence between Speaker Kevin Cotter and Tim Bowlin, the director of the House Business Office.
“We have seen nothing contained in this report, all we have to go on is the accusatory statements made by the Speaker, which is why the results of the investigation need to be made public immediately. It’s really hard to judge what’s going on without seeing the full report, but all we’ve been promised by the Speaker is a summary of the findings and that’s simply not good enough,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “This investigation is about the use of taxpayer dollars, so in the interest of accountability to Michiganders, the report — in its entirety — should be released to the public. Which is why we filed our FOIA requests this morning, seeking all of the documentation, not just the items the Speaker deems worthy of release.”
Copies of the requests can be found here and here.
