NEW POLL: Proposal 2 Support Stays Strong

Polling has consistently tracked nearly three in four Michiganders supporting money out of politics initiative

MICHIGAN — Once again, recent polling released by Progress Michigan in concert with Public Policy Polling shows a large majority of Michiganders support Proposal 2 on the ballot this year. Proposal 2 seeks to ban regulated utilities and large government contractors from making campaign contributions to elected officials and candidates. Polling conducted over the past year has consistently found that nearly three in four Michiganders favor the ballot initiative, showing great promise for a victory while absentee ballots are being delivered to voters.

“The momentum that Proposal 2 has going into November is incredible, but we shouldn’t take it for granted,” said Justin Mendoza, executive director of Progress Michigan. “It took years to get to a point where the public is finally fed up with the pay-to-play system that dominates Lansing. Many of our legislators are simply beholden to DTE, Consumers Energy and Blue Cross Blue Shield, and grassroots organizations talking to people on the ground made people start drawing the connections between big money flooding the system and our representatives giving corporations more and more power. Now, Michiganders have an important choice this November: Will we continue to let corporate money prevail, or will the people get a stronger voice?”
