New Poll: Michiganders Want Action on Reproductive Health Funding
Gov. Whitmer has the support to fund these gaps via executive order
MICHIGAN – Recent polling conducted by Progress Michigan in partnership with Public Policy Polling shows that a majority of Michiganders believe that the state should take immediate action to address the funding shortfall for Planned Parenthood as a result of the Trump administration’s cuts to Medicaid. 56 percent of Michiganders support addressing the funding shortfall now while 34 percent oppose. This polling comes into significance as Planned Parenthood of Michigan is asking the Whitmer administration to provide $5 million in funding via executive order to prevent the closure of healthcare facilities across the state.
“While the Trump administration is making our healthcare completely unaffordable, our state has a responsibility to stand up to the situation getting worse than it already is,” said Justin Mendoza, MPH, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Healthcare facilities are already closing in rural Michigan, and patients will have to travel further and further if our state doesn’t make up for this shortfall. Or worse, they won’t get the care they need at all. We can’t wait for the legislature to take action. Matt Hall and his fellow House Republicans don’t want to make up for these funding cuts caused by Trump’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill. Republican policies are creating more burdensome requirements and red tape for Medicaid enrollment, causing folks to lose coverage. Governor Whitmer has the opportunity to lead on this issue and do what other Democratic governors in Maine and Illinois are already doing.”
