POLL: Michiganders Less Likely to Vote for Lawmakers Who Rolled Back Minimum Wage, Paid Sick Leave Laws

A majority also believe Michigan should eliminate the tipped wage

MICHIGAN – Progress Michigan’s February Lake Effect poll, which tracks public opinion about a variety of issues in Michigan, asked several questions about the minimum wage and sick time laws set to take effect this month. Previous polling in January also examined Michiganders’ opinion on these laws.

“It’s pretty simple. Michiganders support higher wages and better benefits for working people, ” said Sam Inglot, executive director of Progress Michigan. “The reason Republicans schemed to adopt and gut these proposals six years ago is because they knew they were popular and would have been passed by a vote of the people. Every single time there’s a chance for workers to get more of what they deserve, corporate interests falsely claim the economic sky will fall. It’s time lawmakers stopped listening to their spin.”

Results of questions about the minimum wage, tipped wage, and paid sick leave laws are reflected in the charts below:

In concert with Progress Michigan, Public Policy Polling interviewed 791 Michigan voters from February 12-13, 2025 by phone and text. The margin of error for this poll is +/-3.5%. Full crosstabs are available upon request.
