Wife’s Embezzlement Lawsuit, Investigation Brings Questions for Senator Dan Lauwers

What did Senator Lauwers know and when did he know it?

MICHIGAN –  On Tuesday, Progress Michigan released the following statement reacting to the news of an embezzlement investigation and lawsuit being filed against the wife of Senator Dan Lauwers (R-Brockway Township), accusing her of stealing $32,000 from a local chamber of commerce.

“The news of Senator Lauwers’ wife being investigated and sued for stealing $32,000 from a local organization brings important questions for the Senator himself,” said Sam Inglot, executive director of Progress Michigan. “What did Senator Lauwers know and when did he know it? Sen. Lauwers is not only a sitting state senator, he is also on the leadership team for the Senate Republican Caucus; so will Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt be investigating any potential discrepancies with his account of this situation?”

“The fact that Senator Lauwer’s own wife is being sued and investigated for embezzlement, and currently lists Anne Minard, another person who has been charged with multiple felonies in the past, including embezzlement, as the record-keeper for his campaign demands further investigation,” Inglot continued. “Given his prominence in the Senate Republican campaign operations and his length of time as an elected official, constituents of his district and the people of Michigan deserve answers from Sen. Lauwers and Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt.”
