Progress Michigan Statement on Pro-Voter Bills

MICHIGAN – Yesterday, the Michigan Legislature moved several pro-voter bills that will improve access to voting and protect the integrity of our elections. In response, Denzel McCampbell, managing director for Progress Michigan, issued the following statement:

“The Michigan Legislature is taking great strides to protect the integrity of our elections and access to the polls. We applaud the House’s action to protect election workers from intimidation (HB 4129-4130) and protect voters from disinformation by regulating the use of artificial intelligence in election advertising (HB 5143-45), and look forward to the Senate moving these swiftly so they can make their way to the governor’s desk.

“The Senate also moved on bills that will allow 16- and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote (HB 4569), create an online absentee voter ballot application (HB 4570), and secure automatic voter registration (HB 4983-4986). These bills are critical because they acknowledge that, if we’re truly going to create a voting system that works for everyone, we must meet eligible voters where they’re at. We look forward to seeing these bills clear the Senate and head to the governor’s desk as well.”
