Progress Michigan Celebrates Accomplishments of Historic Legislature

MICHIGAN – As the Michigan Legislature adjourns for the year, Progress Michigan is celebrating the accomplishments and policies that this historic legislature delivered for Michiganders and families across the state. The following statement can be attributed to Denzel McCampbell, managing director of Progress Michigan:

“The current Michigan Legislature began the year in historic fashion, being part of the first Democratic trifecta since before many of the staff members of Progress Michigan were born – and they delivered in a similarly historic fashion for Michiganders and working families across the state.

“From passing crucial, life-saving gun violence prevention legislation and pro-worker policies, to approving bills that will provide more money for our kids and their classrooms, the Michigan Legislature, along with Gov. Whitmer, worked hard to improve the lives of Michiganders across the state.

“Michiganders deserve a legislature that works on all of our behalf. We’ve been pleased to see our rights protected and expanded with the repeal of the 1931 abortion ban, the passage of the Reproductive Health Act, and the expansion of the state’s civil rights law to protect the LGBTQ+ community.

“We know seniors, our children, and working families in the state will be better off with the historic budget for our public education system, pro-voter policies, increases for the Earned Income Tax Credit, and the repeal of the harmful pension tax.

“The legislature’s decision to adjourn this week will allow many of these pivotal policies to be enacted as soon as possible so that people can reap the benefits of them. We know legislators will use the final weeks in 2023 to hear from their constituents on what other policies are needed, so that they can hit the ground running and continue to deliver bold, progressive policies in 2024.”
