Progress Michigan Expresses Support for Amazon Walkout

Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, Amazon workers will start a walkout for safer work environment

ROMULUS – Today, Detroit Amazon factory workers at the DTW1 fulfillment center walked out of work to protest the company’s lack of safety regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Amazon is once again putting profit before people, and workers have every right to stand up for their safety,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Amazon is one of the richest companies in the world, and they paid zero dollars in federal taxes last year—they have no excuses to cut corners when it comes to workplace safety. Right now we are in a serious global pandemic, and workers who continue to be called to work during this crisis deserve the safest work environment possible. Progress Michigan stands behind the workers at the Detroit fulfillment center as they fight for what is necessary.”
