Senate Majority Leader Continues To Make Sexist Comments
Statement of Progress Michigan Executive Director Lonnie Scott
MICHIGAN – Michigan Senate Majority Leader, Mike Shirkey, spoke to a small group of Hillsdale College Republicans about Michigan politics and made sexist and hateful comments toward Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in the process. Lonnie Scott, executive director for Progress Michigan, made the following statement in response:
“Shirkey’s behavior today is shameful, saying that Gov. Whitmer is ‘on the bat-sh*t crazy spectrum’ is inappropriate, highly sexist and completely out of line. This isn’t how the leader of Michigan’s Senate should be speaking to anyone, let alone a group of students. The only silver lining to this is that based on the pictures of the event, it seemed that only a handful of students cared enough to come hear from Shirkey in the first place. Instead of grandstanding to college Republicans, Shirkey should be working with Governor Whitmer to get the Michigan budget finished.”
