When most of us think about Election Day, we probably think of November of 2020, when people across the country will vote for a new president—but for many Michiganders, Election Day is also today, May 7.

Of Michigan’s 83 counties, 65 are voting today—many on school millages that help fund local public education. You can find out whether your municipality is holding elections today by checking the Secretary of State’s website. In districts with elections, polls will be open until 8 p.m. EST.

This is also the first Election Day during which Michiganders will have the new set of voting rights passed under Proposal 3 last year—so if you haven’t registered yet, don’t worry! The initiative allows for same-day voter registration, along with other reforms like automatic voter registration, no-reason absentee voting, and the guaranteed right to vote straight-ticket.

Every election matters, and every vote counts—so make sure you get out to the polls today and make your voice heard!
