Republican Senate Moves to Strip Healthcare from Michigan Families
So-called ‘work requirements’ for Medicaid are further assault on working families
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the Republican-controlled Senate passing legislation that attempts to strip healthcare away from working and poor families.
“This legislation has one guaranteed result: taking healthcare away from families. Adding more obstacles to Medicaid won’t help anyone find a job, move up in their job, or help their medical issues,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Medicaid makes a huge difference in peoples’ lives and helps keep families strong while stripping their healthcare away will only hurt them. Plus, the vast majority of people on Medicaid are already working, so what problem is this trying to solve? This is just a continuation of the GOP’s war on working and poor families. Maybe they should be more focused on making sure rich people and corporations are paying their fair share rather than continually taking the fiscal austerity ax to working families’ life lines.”
