Progress Michigan MSU Alumni Call on Simon to Resign
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan is calling on Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon to resign. The decision to call for resignation was made after consideration by the entire staff and new revelations by the Detroit News that MSU officials knew something was wrong and did nothing to help survivors and stop the abuse. The following statement can be attributed to Denzel McCampbell, Sam Inglot, Sean Tobin, and Danielle Emerson, all of whom are proud MSU graduates.
“Our hearts go out to the survivors of the abuse at MSU. We are disgusted by what has played out at our alma mater and we hope these women get the justice and peace they deserve. Clearly, there’s a problem at the helm of MSU and President Lou Anna K. Simon needs to resign immediately. Simon has done little to change the rape culture that permeates at MSU and she needs to be held accountable. This doesn’t stop at MSU, it’s incumbent on everyone, everywhere to take a stand against sexual violence wherever it manifests. For MSU and the entire Spartan community to move forward and fix the broken confidence in the institution, accountability starts at the top.”
