UIA Changes a Start; Must Make Falsely Accused Whole
LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the introduction of a package of bills that seek to fix the state’s broken unemployment fraud system, which falsely accused thousands of people of fraud.
“We need to fix the problem that was created by Gov. Snyder’s administration and perpetuated by Bill Schuette’s aimless prosecutions in court. These bills look like a start. However, they do nothing to make the individuals and families who were swept up in this fiasco whole. That needs to be addressed,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “This entire problem was created because of more privatization efforts from Lansing in the name of efficiency. These experiments have failed time and time again. We need to ensure this never happens again and make sure those affected have their credit restored, proper compensation, and an apology from people like Bill Schuette who unnecessarily put these folks through the ringer.”
