Bill Schuette is the Original ‘Pharma Bro’
LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding Attorney General Bill Schuette’s press statement that he has opened an “investigation into opioid manufacturers and distributors.”
“Bill Schuette is the original Pharma Bro,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “He has taken over $67,000 from big pharma and spearheaded the toughest-in-the-country drug immunity law that protects irresponsible drug companies and limits Michiganders’ ability to hold them accountable. It’s very convenient that after months of bipartisan work by AGs around the country, Schuette only jumps on the bandwagon after he has announced his candidacy for governor, and people will undoubtedly be questioning his piss-poor record on holding drug companies accountable. In terms of the opioid crisis, Bill Schuette backed the GOP healthcare plan, which the former U.S. Surgeon General said, ‘would be a major step backward in addressing the addiction epidemic in America.’”
