Trump Denigrates Pastor Who Asked Him to Talk About Flint Water Crisis
Deplorable statement both racist and misogynistic
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan is calling attention to a deplorable statement made today by Republican standard bearer Donald Trump. Trump, on the show Fox and Friends, called Pastor Faith Green Timmons a “nervous wreck”when describing his interaction with her. He went on to accuse her of “playing games.”
“It seems that Donald Trump can’t help himself. Despite numerous attempts by his staff to soften his image, Trump is drawn to attacking average Americans,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Donald Trump has disparaged women and people of color throughout his campaign so it’s not surprising that he would attack an African American woman for simply speaking.”
A reporter from National Public Radio, who was in the room, disagrees with Trump’s version of the events. A story posted today, shows that Trump lied on Fox and Friends by saying that the crowd chided the pastor for interrupting when in fact they asked Trump pointed questions about his treatment of African Americans as a landlord.
“Donald Trump has a hard time telling the truth but no problem attacking people who do not bend to his every wish,”Scott continued. “I applaud Pastor Timmons for her courage to keep Trump to his word and stand up to him. Bill Schuette and other Michigan Republicans could learn a lesson about integrity from her.”
