Progress Michigan Statement on FOIA Expansion Legislation

LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding legislation introduced to expand Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act to include the Office of the Governor. The statement should be attributed to Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan.

“Progress Michigan has been a leading voice in calling for FOIA reform for several years and we applaud the bi-partisan efforts announced today to bring accountability and transparency to the Michigan Legislature and Governor’s office. We have yet to review the bills in their entirety but are thankful that Republicans, after significant public pressure, have finally seen the value in a government that is open and transparent and are joining their progressive colleagues like Representative Jeremy Moss in moving toward real FOIA reform. We will release further comments after we had a chance to review the bills.”
