Progress Michigan Statement on Rick Snyder’s Failed Environmental Record

Once again, Rick Snyder puts the interests of corporations before Michiganders

LANSING — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding Clean Water Action’s release of Governor Rick Snyder’s first term scorecard.

“This report speaks volumes about Gov. Snyder’s failed priorities,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Instead of standing up to protect our air, our water and our public health, Rick Snyder has, once again, sided with corporations that pollute our state over the people that live here.”

In May, it was reported that under Rick Snyder’s leadership, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation worked behind the scenes to lobby the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to allow Severstal in Dearborn to release higher levels of pollutants and avoid air quality regulations.

“While Michigan’s voters are focused, rightly, on Snyder’s billion dollar cut to education and his tax on seniors’ retirement income, we should also remember that Rick Snyder is no friend of Michigan’s environment,” Scott continued. “Rick Snyder isn’t just disinterested in keeping Michigan’s environment clean, instead his administration has actively worked to harm Michigan’s environment in exchange for higher profits for his CEO pals.”
