Progress Michigan Seeks Disclosure of Contracts Between State Government and Adams Outdoor Advertising
LANSING — In light of the recent rejection of a billboard that sought to educate voters about Governor Rick Snyder’s tax policies, and statements by Adams Outdoor Advertising that it was rejected, “to continue to maintain good relationships with the governor’s office,” Progress Michigan has sent FOIA requests to the governor’s office and other appropriate state departments seeking a list of all current or pending government contracts awarded to Adams Outdoor Advertising.
“We are concerned when a private company, who controls a large share of the billboard marketing industry in Michigan, is making business decisions based on the fear of political retribution,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “It is becoming more and more apparent that Governor Snyder has subscribed to the Chris Christie school of political payback. We think voters deserve to know if the governor’s office is breeding a culture of fear among those that do business with the state.”
Recently, it has been reported that Governor Snyder’s cousin benefitted from a state contract after the administration intervened with the legislature to ensure the contract continued.
“This information will help voters determine if this in another example of the governor’s office playing politics with state contracts,” Scott continued.
