America is hurting, and we all know how we got here: giant banks and Wall Street corporations wrecked our economy. They wiped out pensions and portfolios. Because of their greed, they threw us into a recession, cost us millions of jobs, and forced families out of their homes. And our leaders in Washington let these corporations do it, gladly taking their money along the way.

Here in Michigan, we’ve suffered more than most. Nurses see that suffering in their patients every day – a level of damage far beyond what any Band-Aid can fix. Today, registered nurses around the state are joining 170,000 fellow members of National Nurses United throughout America to send our politicians a simple message: stop putting greedy corporations before our workers and families.

Michigan nurses have come together to demand a tax on Wall Street to re-build Main Street.  It’s time for corporations to give back some of the wealth they’ve taken from middle class America and fix the damage they’ve done. Nurses need you on their side to make this happen.

Just this week, the Washington Post reported that,  “Of last year’s 100 highest-paid corporate executives in the United States, 25 earned more in pay than their companies paid in taxes in 2010. Those 25 firms reported average global profits of $1.9 billion.” These include companies like Verizon and General Electric.

Unbelievable. These corporations that are making billions off the rest of us should not be allowed to hide their profits in tax loopholes provided by their friends in Congress. Let’s help our nurses hold them all accountable and do right by our workers.
