Nessel Does Right by Pulling from Lawsuits
Cases involve reproductive rights, discrimination, and separation of church and state
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan is applauding Attorney General Dana Nessel for withdrawing Michigan from eight federal court cases today. The cases attacked reproductive rights, allowed for discrimination based on sexual orientation, and violated separations of church and state.
“In one fell swoop, Attorney General Nessel has begun erasing the backwards legacy of her predecessor who, for years, used the office for his ideological crusades. More importantly, Dana Nessel is showing the people of Michigan they finally have an attorney general who will stand up for their rights and freedoms,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Pulling out of these lawsuits is a great move for our state. Reproductive rights and freedom for all people are areas that need to be expanded and protected, and we’re glad to see the attorney general standing up for those values.”
