New Poll: Michiganders Support Plug-in Solar
69 percent of Michiganders want legal barriers to plug-in solar removed
MICHIGAN — Recent polling conducted by Progress Michigan in partnership with Public Policy Polling reflects broad support for a new law that would remove existing legal barriers for homeowners and renters to use plug-in solar panels to offset a portion of their electricity costs.
“Clearing a legal pathway for Michigan families to use simple plug-in solar panels at their homes is a commonsense way to help families lower their electricity bills,” said Justin Mendoza, executive director of Progress Michigan. “With no end in sight to Trump’s war in Iran, the cost of basic needs like electricity, gas and groceries continue to rise. Giving folks an option to use plug-in solar devices would help Michiganders who want to curb their reliance on expensive fossil fuels and reduce household expenses.”
“Eleven states have enacted plug-in solar laws, and Michigan needs to join them, so homeowners, renters and businesses have the option to purchase lower-cost solar electricity to reduce how much they have to buy from their local utility,” said John Freeman, executive director of Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association.
Michigan lawmakers recently proposed a new law that would allow homeowners and renters to offset a portion of their home electricity costs by using plug-in solar panels. Currently, legal barriers prevent the use of such devices by renters and homeowners.
