New Poll: Michiganders Are Concerned With AI In the Workplace
People are overwhelmingly in favor of regulating AI in the workplace
MICHIGAN – Recent polling conducted by Progress Michigan in partnership with Public Policy Polling shows that 82 percent of Michiganders are concerned with the use of artificial intelligence being used in the workplace to monitor employees and set wages. 73 percent of Michiganders are in favor of laws that would regulate the way AI is used in the workplace, and an overwhelming majority of Michiganders (92 percent) believe that humans should have the final decision-making when AI is used in the workplace. This news comes as bills are being proposed in the Michigan Legislature to regulate companies who are monitoring their workers with AI.
“While AI is finding its way into our day-to-day lives, our social media feeds, and our email accounts, it’s already starting to have tremendous consequences for the workplace,” said Justin Mendoza, executive director of Progress Michigan. “It is very clear from our polling that Michiganders are concerned about AI being used to monitor them at work and want regulations to prevent this from going unchecked. There’s also near-universal support for ensuring that humans have the final say when AI is being used in the workplace for decision-making. Michiganders want guardrails to protect workers from technology that can do real harm to their ability to make a living, and our lawmakers need to take notice.”
