New Poll: Michiganders Want Data Center Transparency

People are also mostly concerned about increased energy costs and water use

MICHIGAN – Recent polling conducted by Progress Michigan in partnership with Public Policy Polling shows that 77 percent of Michiganders overall would support additional transparency laws for data centers that receive state tax breaks. The polling also shows that Michiganders are mostly concerned with excess water use and increased energy costs when it comes to the impacts of hyperscale data center development.

“From Marquette to Monroe, Michiganders are concerned about how hyperscale AI data centers will impact their communities,” said Justin Mendoza, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Our polling shows that when it comes to data centers, Michiganders are mostly concerned with energy costs and water use. There is also an overwhelming bipartisan support for more transparency laws so people can know exactly how new data center developments are affecting energy costs and water use as well as tracking their promises for more jobs.”
