John James: Shady Opportunist and Trump Acolyte

Michiganders deserve leaders who will fight for all of us, not sacrifice the health and wellbeing of working families to enrich corporate donors. Congressman John James has utterly failed to deliver for working Michiganders.

John James lost two statewide elections for Senate before he won his seat in Congress—and less than a year into his second term, he decided to ditch that seat and become a gubernatorial candidate. He has repeatedly cozied up to Donald Trump and even tried to argue that the president is “not racist,” despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

While in Congress, James has been a rubber stamp for the Trump agenda. He has now voted not once, but twice to raise healthcare costs, first by supporting Trump’s Big BS Bill and then by voting against extending Affordable Care Act subsidies despite having no plans to replace them.

Now that he’s worried about Trump’s unpopularity affecting his own public image, he’s trying to distance himself. Because he doesn’t have the backbone to actually stand up to Trump, he has instead resorted to frequently skipping votes—this year, he’s missed 1 in 10, adding up to the worst attendance record of the entire Michigan delegation.

Does that sound like the kind of leadership Michigan families deserve?
