New Poll: Michiganders Want Insurance Companies to Provide Coverage for Childhood Vaccines

Michiganders back expert-recommended vaccines amid political changes to federal advisory processes and rising measles cases

MICHIGAN – On Tuesday, a new poll released by Progress Michigan shows that Michiganders support the requirement for health insurance companies to cover the cost of evidence-based, expert-recommended childhood vaccines.

“Parents want health decisions guided by medical experts and evidence – not politics,” said Levi Teitel, communications coordinator of Progress Michigan. “At a moment when measles cases are rising and federal advisory processes are being reshaped by political ideology, Michiganders are clear that insurance coverage for proven, expert-recommended vaccines is a basic protection for children, families, and communities.”

This poll is being released as national attention remains focused on recent changes at the federal level, including the replacement of evidence-based experts with political appointees on key Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory bodies that guide vaccine recommendations. At the same time, public health officials have reported an increase in measles cases in multiple states, including outbreaks linked to declining vaccination rates.

Question on graph: "Do you strongly support, somewhat support, somewhat oppose, or strongly oppose requiring health insurance companies in Michigan to cover the cost of evidence-based, expert-recommended childhood vaccines?" Overall Results: 64% Strongly Support, 13% Somewhat Support, 4% Somewhat Oppose, 9% Strongly Oppose, 10% Not Sure

MoE is +/- 3.6 and sample size was 748
