New Poll: Michiganders More Aligned with Global Consensus Than U.S. Government on Gaza

The majority of Michiganders support withdrawing U.S. military support to stop violence against Palestinians

MICHIGAN – New polling from Progress Michigan reveals a majority of Michiganders support the United States withdrawing military aid from Israel in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, putting them at odds with current U.S. foreign policy.

In the first wave of questioning, 59 percent of Michiganders said they strongly support or somewhat support withdrawing military aid to stop the violence against Palestinians. This seems unsurprising considering the United Nations has declared a famine in Gaza, the International Criminal Court has approved war crimes charges against Israeli leaders, and top human rights experts have described the situation as genocide. Polling results confirm Michiganders are far more aligned with the global consensus on human rights and international law than the policies being advanced by the U.S. government.

“As innocent Palestinians continue to be killed, families are forced out of their homes, children starve, and the elderly and sick are told to leave Gaza or be slaughtered, it’s not surprising the majority of Michiganders want the U.S. government to stop sending our taxpayer dollars to fund this genocide,” said Denzel McCampbell, managing director of Progress Michigan. “Michiganders are sick and tired of seeing the images of burnt bodies, emaciated children, and settler violence. They desperately want their representatives to change course and hold the extremist Netanyahu government accountable.”

While Michiganders want to stop military support to Israel, many lawmakers including Republican State Representative Jaime Greene recently joined a delegation of 250 state representatives for a “50 States One Israel” trip to the country, seeking to influence American politics in support of Israel.

“Michiganders overwhelmingly support policies that prioritize human rights and accountability,” McCampbell continued. “It’s time for our lawmakers and our government to remember their humanity and catch up with the people they represent.”

In concert with Progress Michigan, Public Policy Polling interviewed 670 Michigan voters from September 18-19, 2025 by phone and text. Margin of error for this poll is +/-3.8%. Full results for this poll are available upon request.
