POLL: Majority of Michiganders Support Senate Dem Proposal Expanding Rx Kids
Financial assistance for growing families is popular
MICHIGAN – Progress Michigan’s monthly Lake Effect poll, tracks public opinion about a variety of issues in Michigan. The most recent Lake Effect poll found that a majority of Michigan voters overall—including a majority of Independents and an overwhelming majority of Democrats and African-American voters—support expanding Rx Kids, a financial assistance program for pregnant Michiganders and families with infants. Senate Democrats unveiled a proposal in March to expand Rx Kids statewide as part of this year’s budget proposals.
“As a state and nation, we need to be honest with ourselves: we do very little to help expecting families and new parents,” said Sam Inglot, executive director of Progress Michigan. “It’s a huge problem, but there are steps we can take to make the situation better – expanding Rx Kids to put cash directly into family budgets to pay for necessities like groceries should be a no-brainer. Standing in the way of this kind of pro-family policy is wrong and I hope Republicans in the legislature get on board with what Senate Democrats are proposing.”
Results of the question are reflected in the chart below:
In concert with Progress Michigan, Public Policy Polling interviewed 640 Michigan voters from April 9-10, 2025 by phone and text. Margin of error for this poll is +/-3.9%. Full results for this poll are available upon request.
