Michigan Congressional Republicans Vote to Block Access to Ballot Box
MICHIGAN – On Thursday, the United States House of Representatives voted to pass the SAVE Act, an anti-voter piece of legislation that would disenfranchise tens of thousands of eligible Michigan voters. Progress Michigan released the following statement, which can be attributed to Sam Inglot, executive director:
“Disenfranchising voters is the party brand on both the state and federal levels for Michigan Republicans. Instead of working to lower costs, protect the rights of their constituents, and ensure our communities can breathe clean air and drink clean water, Michigan’s congressional Republicans voted to strip tens of thousands of Michigan voters their right to vote by adding even more red tape to a constitutionally protected freedom. We thank the Democrats in Michigan’s congressional delegation for trying to hold the line against yet another attack on Michiganders’ right to vote. The SAVE Act is nothing but a MAGA ploy to put unnecessary, burdensome barriers between Michigan voters and the ballot box. Republicans would rather choose their own voters instead of working to earn votes. Shame on them. Our congressional representatives should work on behalf of Michiganders – not work to silence our voices and take away our rights. The United States Senate must reject the SAVE Act.”
