Progress Michigan Statement on Committee Recommendation of Anti-Voter House Joint Resolution B
LANSING – On Tuesday, Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the House Election “Integrity” Committee recommendation of House Joint Resolution B, an unnecessary and burdensome anti-voter piece of legislation. The statement can be attributed to Sam Inglot, executive director for Progress Michigan:
“For Michiganders keeping score at home, Matt Hall and House Republicans continue to fail to address your needs when it comes to lowering costs, protecting your rights, and helping to keep a roof over your heads and food on the table. Instead, just days after voting to defund public education and gut our state government of services and programs that serve millions of Michigan families, House Republicans are now advancing legislation that amounts to a poll tax.
“House Joint Resolution B is an unnecessary and burdensome anti-voter proposal that would mandate voters provide extra documentation like passports, which many Michiganders lack, in order to register to vote or update their registration. Michiganders have repeatedly voted in record numbers on measures to improve access to voting, but now lawmakers are proposing adding more unnecessary barriers between us and the ballot box. Every single legislator should be voting to stop House Joint Resolution B in its tracks. This poll tax has no place in Michigan.”
