Campaign Finance Complaint Filed Against Part-Time Legislature Committee

Ads featuring Calley and countdown clock not reported in campaign finance filing

LANSING — Progress Michigan has filed a campaign finance complaint with the Michigan Secretary of State regarding Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley’s Clean MI Government ballot committee. The complaint asserts that the Clean MI Committee failed to report ads paid for by MIPAC featuring Brian Calley as in-kind contributions.

“Calley’s part-time legislature campaign is in complete turmoil and despite wanting to supposedly ‘clean up’ Michigan government, Calley and his team are unable — or unwilling — to follow simple rules related to transparency in campaign finance,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “This ballot proposal — from a hurried and misguided launch on Mackinac Island to today — has lost more steam than Bill Schuette has lost cases, which is saying something. Michigan already has some of the weakest campaign finance laws in the country and we look forward to the Secretary of State making sure that at least one mess in Lansing, the ‘Clean Michigan’ proposal, gets cleaned up.”
