We’re looking for an organized, talented progressive who wants to learn how to build and sustain finances and operations to continue to build on Progress Michigan’s success. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner and jump into work to assist the executive director in running the organization. The Progress Michigan team is small but effective and we’re looking for the same low-ego, high output drive from any new team member. This is a full-time position which can be primarily remote with weekly visits to the Lansing office and occasional visits to the Detroit office.

Description
Responsibilities include:
- Maintenance and oversight of all accounting and finance functions of the organization
- Oversee cash flow process for all Progress Michigan entities and provide executive director with weekly reports
- Create program, management and board financial reports including budget to actual, balance sheet and net asset analysis
- Assist compliance manager with reporting for IRS and required state, and federal election laws
- Management of all annual insurance policy renewals
- Contract management for all organizational vendors, leases and regranting – including annual 1099 filings
- Manage day to day financial operations, record accurately in Quickbooks and monthly bank reconcilements
- Assist in grant compliance and reporting
- Manage accounts payable processes and vendor payments
- Check mail and process bank deposits
- Administration of the credit card program, including monthly reconcilement and organizing receipt files
- Work with outside accounting firm on annual audits/reviews and IRS Form 990 annual filings
- Maintain organizational files and records
- Organize and maintain the executive director’s schedule and calendar
- Arrange executive director’s travel schedule and reservations as needed
- Arrange travel and reservations for staff
- Manage key contact database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for key organizational contacts
- Interact with board members including scheduling board meetings, board retreats, and logistics
- Assist in maintaining the physical office space including supplies, equipment, and furnishings
- Support logistics for in-office meetings, including maintaining the conference room schedule
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of two years (or one campaign cycle) professional experience in an operations, campaign management, cash flow, or compliance focused role
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Familiarity with Quickbooks (or similar software) and standard accounting practices
- Working knowledge of Google Suite, especially Docs and Sheets
- Experience with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations a plus
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Proven ability to multi-task
- Experience working and thriving in this type of role in a hybrid environment
- Comfortable in a fast-paced office environment
- Able to think quickly on your feet
Because negotiating is inherently inequitable, we want to be transparent about what salary and benefits we can offer upfront and avoid negotiation. The starting salary for this position is $60,000. In addition, Progress Michigan offers a competitive benefits package which includes health, vision and dental coverage as well as paid vacation, paid sick leave and 401K match.
