New Poll: Michiganders Say Lowering Cost of Living Must Be Top Priority Ahead of State of the State
LANSING, Mich. — As Governor Whitmer prepares to deliver her upcoming State of the State address, new polling from Progress Michigan shows Michiganders overwhelmingly want state leaders focused first on lowering the cost of living, signaling a clear mandate from voters on where state budget priorities should lie.
“Ahead of the State of the State, Michiganders are speaking clearly about what matters most in their daily lives,” said Justin Mendoza, executive director of Progress Michigan. “They want relief from rising costs, and they expect their elected leaders to listen.”
The findings underscore widespread concern about affordability pressures facing working families, including housing costs, utilities, health care, and everyday expenses.
“The State of the State is an opportunity to show that our elected officials are listening,” continued Mendoza. “Michiganders are telling us their top priority is lowering the cost of living, and leaders should treat this as a mandate to center affordability, economic stability, and family financial security in the year ahead.”
