New Poll: Michiganders Say Trump Administration Prioritizing Deportations Over Kitchen Table Issues
Majority disapprove of ICE, report widespread awareness of Minneapolis shooting, and say economic concerns are being sidelined
MICHIGAN – On Thursday, a new poll released by Progress Michigan shows that Michiganders are closely following federal immigration enforcement actions and, at the same time, expressing a desire for greater focus on economic concerns that affect their day-to-day lives, including inflation and the rising cost of living.
“Michiganders are watching in horror as ICE’s actions turn deadly,” said Levi Teitel, communications coordinator of Progress Michigan. “Congress continues to shovel more money into an agency with a growing record of violence and impunity. Meanwhile, those same lawmakers are stripping away health care subsidies that help Michigan families afford doctor visits, prescriptions, and lifesaving care. That is a set of priorities that makes no sense to people trying to get by at their kitchen tables. Michiganders want leaders focused on lowering health care costs and easing the cost-of-living crisis, not doubling down on enforcement that puts lives at risk while families are left to pay more and get less.”
