New Poll: Michiganders Feel Crushed by Rising Costs Since Trump’s Second Term

Health care, groceries, housing, and energy top list of everyday concerns of Michiganders

MICHIGAN – On Thursday, a new poll released by Progress Michigan shows a consistent and clear message from Michiganders: the cost of living is getting worse, and the pain is being felt mostly by the everyday essential families cannot avoid.

“These results tell a worse story than what we saw in 2024,” said Levi Teitel, communications coordinator of Progress Michigan. “Trump can brag all he wants about the state of the stock market, but most people in this country are facing a much different lived reality that this administration instead chooses to ignore. Michiganders are worried about whether they can afford to see a doctor, put food on the table, keep the lights on, and stay housed. When those basic needs become more expensive, families feel it immediately.”

The image has the question "Thinking about your own experience with the cost of living, including things like housing, groceries, health care, and energy costs, do you think the cost of living has gotten better, gotten worse, or stayed about the same since Donald Trump's second term began?" Overall: 24% think the cost of living has gotten better, 56% think it's gotten worse, and 18% think it's stayed about the same

MoE is +/- 3.6 and sample size was 748
