Matt Hall, Michigan House Republicans Endanger Michiganders & Communities With Extreme Budget

MICHIGAN – Following the snap passage of the Michigan House Republican budget on Wednesday, Progress Michigan released the following statement on the endangerment of Michiganders and our communities due to the extreme partisan games of Matt Hall and House Republicans. The statement can be attributed to Sam Inglot, Progress Michigan executive director:

“Matt Hall and Michigan Republicans do not care about our families, communities, or children in Michigan. They made that clear by dragging their feet on a budget this entire summer, leaving schools in the dark on their funding as kids across the state head back to classrooms. They made that extremely clear by proposing drastic cuts to education funding and literally suggesting taking food away from hungry kids. And they made that clear again yesterday when they dropped this dangerous budget and left the public and lawmakers only an hour to look at all 800 pages of it before a vote.

“This budget cuts funding for local communities, proven public safety programs, and health care and hospital funding. It seems more focused on currying favor with Donald Trump by banning diversity in the state than actually delivering on the needs of Michiganders by improving our quality of life and making things more affordable.

“MAGA Matt Hall and his band of obstructionist Republicans have held our state government and public school districts hostage for months by failing to advance a budget on time and now we see why. They are not serious about governing and protecting Michiganders. They have put school meals in jeopardy, created a cloud of uncertainty as kids go back to school, and now they are further putting us in harm’s way by pushing a budget that will only take the state backwards. This is not governing – this is a hostage situation.”

“Governor Whitmer and Senate Majority Leader Brinks must push back against this budget and put Michiganders first. Fund our families, fund our state, and reject MAGA extremism.”
