New Poll: Michiganders Oppose Medicaid Cuts

MICHIGAN – On Thursday, Progress Michigan released additional results from their latest Lake Effect poll. These results focus on public opinion about the cuts to Medicaid that will result from Trump and MAGA Republicans’ budget reconciliation bill.

“Medicaid is a life-saving program, flat out,” said Sam Inglot, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Social services like Medicaid, along with Medicare, and food assistance are critical lifelines that help struggling families make ends meet—and Republican lawmakers are cruelly ripping that lifeline away, leaving folks to drown. It’s a morally reprehensible policy choice that will strip health care away from people who desperately need it and force hospitals and other providers to cut costs, lay off staff, and in some cases, even close—and why? To give their wealthy donors and buddies a tax cut.”

“And, of course, these cuts are on the backs of those whose resources are already stretched thin. It’s no wonder that a majority of people across the state are vehemently opposed. The Big BS Bill is going to ruin countless lives, all for the sake of massive giveaways to the richest Americans, and the people of this country will not forget who was responsible.”

Results of the question about Medicaid cuts are depicted in the chart below.

In concert with Progress Michigan, Public Policy Polling interviewed 627 Michigan voters from July 10-11, 2025 by phone and text. Margin of error for this poll is +/-3.9%.
